THE HONOURABLE KENNETH C. BINKS, Q.C. kbinks@beament.com

Kenneth C. Binks was born in Ottawa, Canada, May 19, 1925. His family have lived in the Ottawa area for 125 years and were members of the business and professional community for 4 generations. He was educated in the public and High Schools of Ottawa. He attended Queen's University and graduated with Honours in Modern History and completed graduate studies for Master of Arts. He tutored in the History Department. In 1949, he attended Cambridge University where he studied Law and completed his legal studies at the University of Saskatchewan in 1952, and admitted to the Bar of Saskatchewan in 1953, and in Ontario in 1953. From 1954 to 1956 he was Senior Assistant Crown Attorney for Carleton County(Ottawa) and from 1958 to 1988 Senior partner at Binks & Chilcott, a firm specializing in national and international advocacy. He was made a Queen's Counsel in 1964. He was National Secretary of the Progressive Conservative Party from 1959 to 1966 and elected a Member of Parliament for Ottawa West in 1979. In 1991 he was appointed a Judge of the General Division, now Superior Court of the Province of Ontario. In 1998 he was appointed a Member of the Canada Pension Appeals Board. He retired from the Superior Court of Ontario in May 2000 and joined the firm of Beament Green as Counsel. Judge Binks is the author of Canada's Parliamentary Library, published in 1979, a member of the Canadian Bar Association, The International Bar Association, The National Press Club and The Cambridge Union.

CHERYL GERHARDT McLUCKIE, B.J., LL.B. cgerhardt@beament.com

Cheryl Gerhardt McLuckie articled with Beament Green and was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 2001. She is a graduate of the University of Ottawa faculty of Law and holds a Bachelor of Journalism degree from Carleton University. She is a member of the Carleton County Law Association and the Canadian Bar Association - Ontario. Cheryl practices in the areas of civil and commercial litigation, including contractual disputes and environmental law.

Bill is a graduate of St.Patrick's College (University of Ottawa) with the degree Bachelor of Commerce and was awarded a medal in Economics. He received his legal education at the Osgoode Hall Law School from which he graduated with the degree Barrister-at-Law with Honours and was awarded the Luxenburg Memorial prize. Thereafter, he was admitted to the Bar of Ontario and subsequently obtained the degree Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from York University. In 1973, Bill was appointed a Queen's Counsel by the Attorney General of Ontario. Bill has more than 40 years experience in providing legal services to clients including several school boards in Ontario. He has provided representation before The Supreme Court of Canada, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Canada (both Appellate and Trial Divisions) and The Supreme Court of Ontario and before administrative tribunals including the Labour Relations Board, the Special Education Tribunal, the Ontario Municipal Board, and the Environmental Appeal Board. Bill has completed the Harvard Negotiation Course. Bill is available to serve as or arbitrator for private or Court ordered arbitrations.

MICHAEL S. HEBERT, B.A., LL.B. mhebert@beament.com

Michael S. Hebert was born in Ottawa. He obtained a B.A. Cum Laude in Economcs from Carleton University (St.Patrick's College) and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Ottawa Law School in 1977. He was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1979. He joined Beament Green in 1985 and has since practised exclusively in the area of commercial dispute resolution including all facets of construction and related contractual matters, real and personal property security and enforcement, receivership, insolvency and restructuring, and all facets of environmental claims and defences. He advises public and private organizations in the risk management relating to their ongoing liabilities arising out of large and complex commercial transactions. Michael is a member of the Advocates' Society and has and continues to serve as an instructor for the Bar Admission Course and Continuing Education Programs for both the Law Society and the Carleton County Law Association.

Derek  Nicholson is a partner with the firm of Beament Green. He received his call to the Bar of Ontario in 1980. He is a graduate of the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. Derek carries on a Civil Litigation practice in the areas of Insurance, Personal Injury and Administrative Law. He has represented the Attorney General of Canada and various insurance companies and has conducted trials and arbitrations before all levels of court as well as several administrative and quasi-judicial tribunals. Derek also donates much of his time to teaching and lecturing at continuing legal education programs for the Law Society of Upper Canada. He has also taught Insurance Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa for 15 years. He has been a chair and served on the panel of several legal education seminars in the areas of Evidence, Civil Litigation and Family Law including Chairing a program in Insurance Law on the recent amendments to the automobile legislation - Bill 59. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Carleton County Law Association, and the Medical Legal Society of Ottawa-Carleton.

JOHN R. READ, B. Comm., LL.B. jread@beament.com

John Read joined Beament Green upon his admission to the Bar of Ontario in 1978. He has been President of the Ottawa Medical-Legal Society, a member of the Advocates' Society and County of Carleton Law Association. John was a sessional lecturer at Carleton University Department of Law from 1977 to 1982, and has served as head of Course on Labour Law of the Bar Admission Course of the Law Society of Upper Canada. John has acted as a group leader in the Bar Admission Course, Civil Litigation section, and lectured for the Law Society of Upper Canada. John acts as counsel to various private and public sector clients in the area of civil litigation, administrative and labour law. John is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in civil litigation.

Patrick Murphy, B.A.,LL.B.

Patrick Murphy was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2003.  After articling with a full service firm in Ottawa, he joined Beament Green in the summer of 2004.  Originally from Ottawa, Patrick received his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Political Science and Law from Carleton University before attending and completing his law degree at the University of Manitoba.  Patrick is a member of the Carleton County Law Association, the Ontario Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association; and is a former member of the Manitoba Bar Association.  He practices in the areas of civil litigation and commercial litigation, with an emphasis on insurance law matters. He  has appeared before various levels of Court in both Ontario and Manitoba and teaches an undergraduate course in Public Law at Carleton University.

Sean Bawden, B.A., LL.B.  sbawden@beament.com

Sean Bawden obtained his B.A. from York University’s Glendon College in Toronto with Honours.  In 2007 he graduated cum laude from the University of Ottawa’s law school.  In law school Sean worked for three professors, as well as the Dean.  You can find him now acknowledged in half a dozen legal textbooks, including the 8th edition of Allen Linden's Canadian Tort Law and the 3rd edition of Jamie Benidickson's Environmental Law.  A devoted environmentalist, Sean continues to volunteer his time to a nationally-recognized environmental group, and was selected to spend a semester of law school in Kenya on an environmental internship.  A “transplanted-Torontonian”, Sean is happy to now be practicing in Ottawa.
